Dear Malden Youth Baseball Families,
We hope this letter finds you all well. The Board of Directors has been hard at work to plan a modified baseball season that will not only allow your players to get back on the field but will be as safe and compliant with public health guidelines as possible. The health and safety of our players, coaches, and families has been the primary focus of our plan and will remain the focus of all our decisions. We all want to get back to baseball, but we must remember that all our plans rest on the Commonwealth continuing to move through its phased reopening plan, and our ability to play is subject to both State and the City of Malden’s public health guidelines and advisories.
Because of the current guidelines related to continued social distancing and efforts to control further spread COVID-19 we will not be able to run our Tee Ball program for ages 4-6 (born on or before 9/1/2013) this year. We feel it is in the best interest in the health and safety of our youngest players and their families to cancel Tee Ball this season. If you have already registered your player, you will receive a full refund for this season and you may pick up your check next week. Board members will be at Bruce Field at Devir Park Monday and Tuesday June 15 and 16, from 6:00pm – 7:00 pm and at Kierstead Park on Thursday June 18, from 6:00 – 7:00.
For our players aged 7 – 12, (born between 9/1/ 2007 to 8/31/2013) we will run a modified season that we plan to begin on July 6, 2020 and will run week nights only through August. Players, coaches, volunteers and spectators will be expected to employ social distancing guidelines as outlined by the state and city. Players are strongly encouraged to bring their own bats and helmets. Additional details regarding all practices will be released before the start of the season. This modified season plan relies heavily on there being enough interested players registering and, public health guidelines continuing to move through Phases 2 and 3 of the State’s reopening plan. The plan for the 2020 season applies only to this year. All players will be drafted to teams for this season only and, if currently assigned to a Major Division team, will return to that team for the 2021 season.
The cost for the modified season will be $50 and will include a hat and T-shirt. Board members will be at Bruce Field at Devir Park Monday and Tuesday June 15 and 16 from 6:00 – 7:00 and Keirstead Park Thursday June 18, from 6:00 – 7:00 so you may register your 7 – 12-year-old players in person. Should there not be enough interested players in any age division we will have to cancel that division and registered players will receive a full refund. If you have already registered online, you will receive a refund of the difference between the registration fees previously paid and the $50 fee for the currently planned season. Additionally, if you are interested in coaching or managing a team for this season, please let us know at one of the registration dates!!
